Last night, the aurora was visible from central Edinburgh, the first time I have been certain of seeing the Northern Lights from my flat. The light pollution made photography difficult – I have seen better pictures on the internet this morning – but I am pleased to have caught these.

The predominant colour was bright green, though I could see hints of purple and red too, though these haven’t been successfully captured by the camera.

The bright white lights in the bottom centre of some images are from the oil rig docked in the Forth at the moment; the red lights just to the left of it are from the Craigkelly transmitter tower.
