Noctilucent Clouds over the Forth. Edinburgh, June 2018.

Noctilucent clouds are those which are high enough in the sky to be illuminated by the sun after dark; they are generally seen in high latitudes in summer, although particularly high clouds can be lit up by the sun in spring and autumn.

These phtogoraphs were taken a little before midnight last night; sunset was just after 10pm. At this time of year, the sky never gets completely dark: there is a strip light to the north until dawn.
